Mental health and one’s state of mind depend on our emotional wellbeing and whether we suffer from disorders or conditions which affect how we manage our feelings and outlook on life. No one is happy 100% of the time, however certain people are more likely to suffer from mental health problems and experience great difficultly getting advice and treatment. Men tend to struggle more with their mental health problems and are less likely to seek help and take longer to do so than women. Men find it difficult to talk through their problems with friends, family and even their partner compared to women. Mental health problems in men are not as recognized or understood by the general public as well as those same problems in women. Society expects men to conform to their strong and tough stereotype and this means never outwardly manifesting their emotions. We all experience difficult or traumatic events during our lives, some people are able to cope and overcome their problems others find it a real challenge. Each person deals with things differently and equally men and women use difference approaches. Coping mechanisms for men include doing physical activities such as walking or running, listening to music or watching television. Services designed to help men deal with psychological problems should approach them very differently to how they approach women. Such services may want to explore more anonymous means for communicating such as email or online chat, as well as running men only groups which encourage men to overcome their inability to express their feelings openly.
